Demo Info

The Welcome to Elderfield alpha demo is a vertical-slice of what is to come. The demo features one area of the town, the farm and ranch, the first "dungeon" area - the local mall - and several smaller places to explore. The final game is expected to have more than 3x the town size, at least 2 more "dungeon" areas like the mall, and multiple levels to each of those areas. The final game will also include new features such as Old God alignment, calendar-based events, quality of life features and much more of everything that is already here. The demo represents roughly 1/6 of the planned finished game.

Alpha updates beyond the demo will be available to play for Patreon members. These updates will be released as the game is developed, so Patrons can provide feedback and experience the full game as it comes together - bugs and all!

Your feedback is vitally important!

Any comments left on Itch, our Discord or our Patreon page will be read and considered for future updates.

Please let me know if you experience any bugs, have any game balance/pacing feedback, or if there are any changes/features you'd like to see.

I don't usually play horror games since I get scared easily, but this has been fun. I'll definitely get the full game when it comes out! 10/10 even if I did accidentally jumpscare myself meeting the farmer. I really enjoyed that it has enough unique things to be more than just a stardew valley clone with a spooky aesthetic.

We always crave for mix and twist

really excited for when the full game comes out!

Wow, thanks for playing the game, everyone! I don't really check itch much as it wasn't really gaining much traction here for a while, and then I pop back in and see a million new comments, haha. Feel free to leave any feedback you have about the game - I read every comment.

Interesting Game, Gave Some Critiques, I Apologize if it Seems Like We're Being a Little Too Harsh on This Game

(3 edits)

Hi, thanks for playing the game! There is kind of a lot going on there, so I'll just say a few things. Nothing is traced, I have just spent over a decade practicing and learning to draw traditional horror manga. Ito is my largest influence (and certainly most recognizable to folks in the west), but other influences are artists like Umezz, Hino, Kago, Koga, Maruo, Nori, Masaaki, Yamazaki and Inuki to name a few. There are videos of me illustrating character artwork for the game from scratch on my YouTube channel, where I post devlogs for the game. In response to the claim that there are "stolen assets", this just isn't true. You mentioned rocks from Stardew Valley specifically. That isn't true - the rock sprites in this game are either modified sprites from a tileset named Mana Seed, or completely original.  The game is still early in development, and there is about a year and half to go at least, so hopefully it will shape up into something less clunky and more consistent. Even the artwork is always being tweaked and re-worked as I listen to feedback and try to find the right balance.

Looks dope

hi, i really wanna play this game so much, but it keeps getting an error of playrequest()  and its so laggy. is there a solution?

was the version in the steam same as these?

The Steam version is the same as this one. Usually the playrequest() crash means the game is not installed properly. Please try completely deleting the files and re-installing. Lag may be a result of your system, I would need to know your specs to tell if it is out of the ordinary.

(+2)

Gotta ask, did you use AI or just really nailed Ito's style?

There is no AI. I've spent more than a decade studying and practicing traditional horror manga illustration (Ito, Umezz, Kago, Hino, Koga, Masaaki, Kago, Maruo, Nori, etc.). Ito is the most prominent influence and certainly the most recognizable to most folks in the west, but I have a lot of influences across all of traditional horror manga.

Junji Ito's Stardew Stagtown Nightvale Valley, nice

Hey, this game looks really interesting, so I'm interested in translating it to Brazilian Portuguese. I'd appreciate it if you could hit me up.

(+1)

I'm also a modder who wanted to translate, I'm trying to open the project, the creator gave permission to create, I can contact you so we can do this together

(1 edit)

Yeah, sure. Its me and a friend. @lea-far@bsky.social

Is this your discord? I was able to open it and finally have access, I want to get in touch.

My discord is faelra

See my above comment - fan-translation patches are supported without the need for modding.

The current plan is to have the full game professionally localized into many languages (likely including Portuguese) for the full release.

That said, the game can already be fan-translated without the need for mods, as all of the localization tools are already implemented. There is a game-messages.csv file in the main directory. This has  several columns - one for raw text (Original) and one for the English displayed text (en). Replacing the text in the "en" column will change what text is displayed in-game by default. Translating that column will mean all of that text will appear translated in-game for anyone who replaces their game-messages.csv file.

If a special font is needed, renaming any font to "VCR.woff" and replacing the file of the same name in the fonts folder will change the default font.

There is some text which is not included in the "Original" column of the csv file. You can add any text to a new cell there, and any translated text to the eng column to change any text in-game which matches (ie. if the words "You found" are not in the csv file and not being translated in game, you can just add that and its translation to a new cell in the original and en columns, and then they will appear translated in-game).

Since it is just the csv and a font that need to be replaced for someone to get the translation, you can easily make a drag-and-drop patch for any language.

I am also open to including any fan translations languages in future builds of the demo until the official translation is created.

This looks like of cool, but it seems like the character art is traced or copied closely from Junji Ito.  I can recognized some of the characters and frames it was taken from, and while I love the idea of taking inspiration, this doesn't look like inspiration but a little closer.

It does look like a cool game, but I'm going to avoid it for now because I think that's a little disrespectful.

(+3)

Do you have specific examples?

(1 edit)

This is not true. I have over a decade of experience drawing in a traditional horror manga style. There are even videos on my Youtube channel showing me illustrating character artwork for the game from  blank page all the way to inked/colored/implemented artwork in-game.

(+3)

Stardew but horror.

(+2)

Holy hell this is a GOOD MIX. Can't wait to try it out!

(+7)(-5)

no mention of junji ito when the faces r almost traced is insane

(+3)(-3)

my thoughts exactly :sob:

Please see my answer in the other reply

My art style is very inspired by traditional horror manga, with Junji Ito being the most prominent influence but also artists like Umezz, Koga, Hino, Masaaki, and others. These are all penciled and inked from scratch by hand. There is nothing referenced from any existing material, I just have over a decade of experience illustrating in this style, and my influences are very recognizeable. The reason there is no mention of Ito or any other influence is that no other artists are involved in this project, so referencing/crediting them would be inappropriate.

es de juego abierto, pero me encanta el arte se ve inspirado en Junji Ito :)

Hello! I got this error when I was trying to fish in the lake with leeches , but I didn't lose a lot of progress thanks to auto-save! (thanks for putting that in the game btw!)

Thanks for the report!

hello seems like a cool game anyone have any idea why when i try to download it it says file not available on site? (please help i wanna play it)

This happens when a new version was uploaded and the old one was disabled while you were trying to download it. Refreshing the page and getting the latest version will fix it

(+6)

It's like if Stardew Valley and Welcome to Night Vale had a baby! 100/10.

(+2)

I've been listening to your playlists on Youtube for quite a while now and I was excited to see that you were working on a game now, I haven't finished the demo but what I've played of it is pretty cool.

(+5)

(Un)holy cow! A game that's both a farm sim, similar to stardew valley, and an eldritch horror story with turn-based combat, with fantastically creepy artwork. Sign me the hell up!

(+1)(-1)

I absolutely loved this! The atmosphere feels amazing and pulls you in nicely. Love to see the full release when it does come out!

I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for making a video!

(1 edit) (+3)

I LOVE the Junji Itou artstyle, I'll definitely play this when the game is completed! Goodluck

(+3)

Is it possible to flirt intelligent, horrors capable of consent or some townsfolk?

(+1)

If you mean date monsters, there is already a skeleton in the free demo and a "creature" in the Patreon version which you can increase friendship with. There are plenty of townsfolk which you can increase friendship with. There will eventually be some kind of partner system implemented.

(+2)

0.1.7 udate removed extra storage box in the garden, where my watering can and hoe was in. Now i have no way of farming, you cant buy default tools anywhere, so, its a perma blocker

(+2)

Interact with the north-east corner of the farm, and it should open the old farm storage so you can get your things back.

(+1)

This is some IQ 289 move bro

(+1)

Thanks haha

(+1)

This is so clever :D

(+2)

Nice game, i like it!
I wonder will there be new areas available on next updates or only on full game release on steam or smt?
Also, not sure if the engine supports this, but maybe itd be interesting, if, lets say, you get animals, like cows, but u could also get a guard animal like a dog or cat, that would either protect your farm from random mobs and get some minor loot, in exchange youd feed them with meat and if you feed them with monster meat they eventually transform into some mutant and u either have to fight it or has to be put in enclosure as a "collectable" monster or smt

Glad you dig the game!

More areas will be added, however they will not be in the demo. Patrons can play the new areas as they are added, but otherwise they will be in the full release.

A pet system is planned, but it will likely be more of a cosmetic thing.

(+1)

I see : )

(+2)

Finally, a spooky farming sim! I will be giving this a go very soon!

Let me know what you think!

(+1)

This game looks and feels like a treat! I can't wait for the full release, it's so my vibe, and the art is amazing. How many "areas" are you planning for it?

There will be 3 main "dungeon" areas like the mall, the town will be 3 times larger, and the "dungeons" will go 1 floor deeper. There will also be several large side-areas

(+1)

Sick, I can't heckin' wait! You have a great thing in the making, keep it up! Meanwhile, I'll recommend it to anyone I know ahahah

(+2)

Nice looking sprites :) Are you working on this game on your own?

Thanks! Yup, this is all solo.

(+1)

Did you make the visuals yourself?

For the most part, yes. There are modified tiles from existing commercial tilesets such as Modern Exteriors and Horror City, as well as a lot of custom tiles and sprites. All of the artwork (characters, enemies, mysteries, etc.) is my own hand-drawn art, and anything I need to sprite/tile which I can't create by modifying an existing tileset is drawn from scratch as I go.

(+2)

That's really cool!

Thanks!
